What is the Best Energy Saving Exterior That Looks Great, Doesn’t Cost Much, and Saves Money?

Is your money going out through your roof? When people think of energy saving exteriors, they typically think of “green roofs” as the best energy saving exteriors, changing their lifestyle toward becoming more environmentally friendly without spending too much. Green roofs are a special type of roof that incorporates different types of plants and other organic materials. This might be a bit confusing, but the goals in putting up a green roof is the same as with other energy saving exterior: to change the current mindset in the construction field to become more energy efficient to protect the environment. And in return, the homeowners can save money in their energy bill.

During summer the heat from the sun is naturally attracted to nearly all types of roofing materials and conducts through attic space and ultimately into the house, causing your air-conditioning to work overtime. But if you have a good energy saving exterior roofing system, like for example the green roof, it will absorb the heat from the sun and will keep your house cooler. With utility bills increasing on a regular basis, and environmental problems at the forefront of public conscience, many people are looking for ways to minimize resource wastage as much as possible. And using energy saving exteriors can help you address these issues. Studies have been conducted about green roofs and it has been found that green roofs can effectively help “control” the temperature in your house. It is the best energy saving exterior because it is inexpensive, eco-friendly, and can help building owners to be energy efficient.

Green roofs modify the typically black rooftops of commercial buildings into lush beautiful green gardens, these spaces can then be made into simple rooftop park, this can also be a perfect venue to host parties. Savvy commercial building owners can have their green roofs leased out to bio-tech firms, nurseries or to environmental organizations, which will definitely add to the overall sales for the commercial building while helping you use energy efficiently.

In addition to using energy saving exteriors, make sure that your home is energy efficient, especially your roof by checking that you are adequately insulated. Almost 50% of the heat supplied in your home will escape through the leaks and cracks on roof and walls. Your loft should be insulated up to a depth of 270mm and according to the Energy Saving Trust will, on average, reduce your power bills by around 20 percent per year.

Nowadays there are numerous companies producing energy saving roofing systems that promise better performance and quality, like:

1. better wind resistance (up to 110 mph) this is good news to all, especially if you are living in an area where storms are frequent,

2. reduced cooling costs which will only mean that you can save more money,

3. longer roof life with less maintenance and better insulation to prevent heat exchange.

Not only is our environment being harmed by the increase in energy consumption, but the shocking rise of energy costs and increased home electrical appliances have led to higher energy bills. By using energy exterior you can reduce your energy consumption and you are helping the environment. This is a simple but effective way to save money.
